While being a heavy computer gaming nut like many people (Got started on Doom, then Doom 2, then Quake, et cetera), I don't have much to say about that kind of computer gaming here. Many sites do it better than I could.

The kind of computer gaming I do want to mention here are MUDs. Before there was Ultima Online and Everquest, every day heroes and villians met to do battle with dread monsters and each other, in search of treasure and power. These battles were carried out in a text interface on countless Multi-User Dungeons or Multi-User Domains (depends on who you ask). This was the original online role-playing and is still quite popular for many people. I myself run a game based on the iDirt codebase, which in turn is based on the original Aber code which many MUDs trace their lineage to.
